Stop me if you can

Humans came a-visiting Sunday morning.
I got excited.
I tried to lick the little ones.
They shrieked and cried.
My parents yelled at me and threw me into the backyard.
I protested.
Loudly.
For an hour.
A burly policeman rang the doorbell.
An anonymous neighbor had called to complain about “a barking dog”.
“Citation next time,” warned the burly cop before he left.
Law-abiding dad is bristling with embarrassment.
Mom wants to know who the anonymous neighbor is since all our neighbors have dogs.
And I think there's not enough crime in this city if cops can make house calls to hush barking dogs.

The cop and I were just doing our jobs.
It's the neighbors I'd like to show my digit to.
