(1.) You start tidying up the house and your child asks you, with a quizzical look, "Who's coming over?"
(2.) You time visits to your local Costco around noon, when they have the most free samples?
(3.) You spend an hour straightening the house before your cleaning lady arrives, lest she pass judgment?
(4.) You don't make payasam on birthdays or holy days because nobody eats it except you, but you tell your mom on the phone you did, anyway?
(5.) You turn off the lights and peek through the blinds at the pool party going on in your neighbor's house?
(6.) You eat all the cookie dough and Oreo bits in ice cream and leave the rest of it for your family?
(7.) You rely on your eight-year-old for basic numeric information, like passwords, phone numbers and gate codes? Once he starts calculating tips, you'll be a happy camper.
(8.) You attend poojas only for the food?
(9.) You smile at random strangers while out shopping, but go out of your way to avoid people you know?
(10.) You fart and then blame the dog?

Oh Gosh.
I dont' think anyone does all that.
Perhaps you think too much of what people think about you. Trust me, noone thinks of us as much as we think they think of us.
Live for yourself. Seriously. Life's too short to waste on thinking what others think.

And what do I do when I tell my son I'm going to take a shower and he says, "Why? Where are we going?"

What a hilarious post! I loved it!
My friend who was a real dev-bhakt would call me for every pooja and satsang and whatever else at her house. She knew us so well that she never told me when the ceremonies would start. Instead she would say: The pooja will get over latest by 8pm so if you come by 8:30pm, you will be in time for dinner. :-D
