Anu: “I don’t get it. How can a baby look like its father?”
Mom: “What do you mean? Who else will a baby look like?”
Anu: “No, see? A baby can look like its mother because it grows in her tummy, but why does it look like the father sometimes?”
Mom: “What in the world are you talking about? Go wash your hands and come to dinner.”
Anu: “See, Amma, why does a baby resemble its father when it doesn’t grow in his tummy? Why doesn’t it just look like some random guy; like some guy in a store maybe? I don’t get it.”
Dad pretended he didn't hear, while mom busied herself in the kitchen and suppressed a smile. "My baby's still innocent," she silently thanked the gods. The idiot box and his peers haven't corrupted his eight-year-old innocence yet.
So, did she answer his question?
Of course not.
In typical mom fashion she was more concerned about the rotis going cold.

LOL@mom. It's OK for mom to now have a smile on her face. But for how long? Have mom and dad evolved a strategy for the bees and the birds topic?

visitor, of course the humans have no strategy. As I mentioned, important matters are usually sidelined or swept under the rug in this household.
rads, he'll be nine in a few months, but he's still our baby.

I remember my dad replying to me about such uncomfortable questions:- "You mom is the doctor, she should be knowing about it. Why don't you ask her?" and he won't be seen for the next couple of hours, until my mom has medical case histories to study. I was pretty persistent at that age about lot of things. My teachers used to call me 'curious as a rat' .. I still imagine the trouble she must have gone through to ignore me. LOL!
Why do these things always fall on the mom? Dads seem to have no trouble acting on their desires; only explaining it.
The questions only get tougher..
Anu is the smart one here - he probably has seen one of his friends look like some guy in the store ;-)... makes you wonder where that kid's mom has been "shopping" eh?
Terry, when the birds and bees education actually happens, please do blog about how you went about it. Would be useful for other parents with kids who would be there sooner or later.
i thinki should find an easy way of explaining it before my daughter asks me the same...i dont think is too far...

Because the dad is married to mom biology makes the children sometimes look like dad. :D
